Education

Utah has the best education team ready to help with any issues that arise for your school aged child, including consulting in advance of IEP meetings, troubleshooting school issues, and training school teachers and staff.  Michelle Holbrook leads this team.  Michelle is a former special educator, is especially adept at problem solving and training teachers and staff on issues relating to PWS.  She has a son with PWS and understands school issues that will arise.  Association.

This document shows one example of program modifications that can be made to an IEP. Many of these modifications will fit any age group, although some of them are geared toward older students. Using this example will empower your child’s team to make the correct decisions for your child.

IEP General Healthcare Plan

​

This document shows one example of the health plan that can be included in an IEP. You can use this as an outline, but your school may have a format that they prefer you to use. The goal of the health plan is to provide specific directions about how to handle the health issues included with PWS. One of the most important things to mention in this document is food security, which can be a large hurdle at school.
